Some pictures from the last great tour of OTONOWA – Japan 2015!

This July, I was lucky enough to video and photograph, for the second time, this wonderful project. The third annual tour of the band included Akira Tana (drums and band leader), Art Hirahara (piano), Ken Okada (bass), Masaru Koga (sax, flute & shakuhachi) and Saki Kono (guest singer and tour organizer). Joining this time Tetsuya Tatsumi (trumpet/Gakki for Kids) as well as supporters Yoji Ogawa (guest piano), Takahiro Dai (trumpet), Takeshi Ogawa (volunteer driver) and Nancy Sato (volunteer).

OTONOWA performed in nine different locations in the tsunami/earthquake-affected areas of Tohoku as well as the Fukushima prefecture, which is still recovering from the nuclear plant disaster and Tokyo. Despite fifteen concerts and four workshops involving over twenty local musicians, the band was able to visit numerous temporary local businesses, community centers, as well as significant landmarks in only 17 days!

I’m currently working on the new video documentary, which I hope will be ready within a couple of months…
